In this new look at One Piece season three, Netflix confirms what we already knew. One Piece season three will take on One Piece‘s famed Alabasta arc, bringing together powerful villains, emotional bonds of friendship and family, political intrigue, and a whole lot of adventure. Up until now, One Piece‘s episodes have been focused on island hopping through character backstories and tales. But now, we have our crew, and we’re ready to set sail into one breathtaking plot. We don’t want to spoil too much of the Alabasta arc for you—but we do have a character explainer for Sir Crocodile, who will prove to be a most important character in this arc. Additionally, we’ll remind everyone that Xolo Maridueña has been cast as Portgas D. Ace for One Piece season three. And, in short, Ace is basically another important member of Luffy’s found family. Will we see any other members of Luffy’s extended community appear? What about his blood family? We don’t know yet. But we do know that more Baroque Works agents are on the horizon.

In Interview with the Vampire, Louis de Pointe du Lac took the helm as our vampiric narrator, and we learned of his many convoluted relationships with the Vampires Lestat, Claudia, and Armand. Now, in The Vampire Lestat, Lestat de Lioncourt will take over the telling of the tale. And he brings with him a whole new cast of characters. Without getting too spoilery, for us, having watched the first six episodes of the season, one of the most interesting aspects of the show this time around was looking at Lestat and his two main (current) vampiric companions, Louis and his mother/lover/fledgling Gabriella. But how does Lestat’s relationship with each of these important beings in his life manifest? And how do they impact him? In the lead-up to The Vampire Lestat, Sam Reid gave us some incredibly insightful answers about the complicated swirl of relationships that exists between Louis, Lestat, and Gabriella.

Reid shared the following about the relationships that live between Lestat and his two immortal companions, Louis and Gabriella:
How does Lestat’s relationship with Louis and Gabriella define him and bring out different… I mean, yeah, it’s very different, but I think you get the sense that the relationship with Louis is actually … They’re on a level ground. They accept each other for who they are. They go through hell and fight each other, but they come back to each other. They keep recircling each other and there’s a lot of the performative nature, particularly of Lestat is kind of stripped away with Louis because he can’t really hold it up. Whereas Gabriella, it’s different. She’s been there in very formative years and so she has helped build him and kind of build the foundations and the structure that is Lestat. And Lestat has spent his entire life performing and building these characters and these archetypes that are built around the situations that he finds himself in.
And sometimes the suit that Gabriella puts in him in does… He sort of outgrows and doesn’t really fit anymore and Lestat keeps returning to it, because that is unfortunately a very safe space for him, because he’s looking for that maternal acceptance and love. So actually the actor, the rockstar, the Brat Prince, the leader, all of these things, that is the kind of vicarious life that Gabriella’s built for him so she can kind of use that as a conduit to experience it himself. Whereas Louis is different.
They call each other out on their bullshit more often than not and also really hurt each other and the hurt is reciprocated. I think Lestat finds it very hard to hurt Gabriella. He wants to hurt her and also he wants to hate her and she won’t let him. She won’t let him go whereas Louis will let him go and Lestat will let Louis go and they’ll have years where they’re not together and they’ll be like, “Whoa, I lost that one.” And then they come back, he’s like, “No, okay, you grew a little bit. I grew a little bit. Who are we now? We’re still the same people.” Whereas Gabriella won’t ever let Lestat out of her orbit. And just when he thinks, “Okay, I’ve got some time,” she comes right back in. She knows. She’s very clever, but that’s how he learns the great art of manipulation.
In the words of Jacob Anderson, “Come on. He said it all.” And indeed, he did. Reid’s words here really poignantly capture the beauty of the relationship between Louis and Lestat. And why, at base, although they can clash and end up in bitter fights at times, their relationship is never truly over. The fact that they can honestly offer their feelings, even their hurts, to one another, then withdraw to allow each other the time and distance to grow and heal, is superbly beautiful. And we can definitely see it manifest this season in full.
Conversely, in opposition to Lestat and Louis, we can also see what Reid means when he talks about Gabriella never letting Lestat truly loose from her clutches. And how she has these goals and aims that she strives for in The Vampire Lestat, but often tries to enact them through Lestat, by the mechanism of using and manipulating him, rather than building toward them with him.

The stark differences between the two relationships truly come to vivid life in The Vampire Lestat this season. And when all three of these vamps are in a room, it’s some of the most riveting subtextual dynamics we’ve ever seen on our screens. Everyone is at the top of their game. And we’re definetly curious to see how the dymanics between Lestat, Louis, and Gabriella continue to unfurl as the story continues.

Video Explores Darth Vader’s Costume History
- A new YouTube video shows the progression of Darth Vader’s costume.
- From the 70s to now, small changes have made him a recognizable villain.
- The video goes over design adjustments from film to film, and how he became the Vader we know and love (to hate).
The Star Wars franchise’s popularity is rivaled by very few. Since A New Hope came out in 1977, its characters have become cultural icons, and none have been more significant than Darth Vader, the franchise’s primary villain.
Darth Vader is immediately identifiable. His formidable all-black costume is made up of a curved helmet with a distinct face-covering, a long cloak, and almost cyborg-like electronic accents.
A YouTube video by Rocket Riley goes over the suit’s full history. The costume, as the video discusses, was the result of a lot of creative thinking and last-minute changes. It also changed a lot before even debuting onscreen, and has continued to be altered over time, as more Star Wars content has continued to come out.
Initial Conception/Episode IV: A New HopeGeorge Lucas’s first imagining of the character was far less… heavy and metallic than how we now imagine Darth Vader. He was robe-clad, covered in draping fabrics. Then, after a script read, Ralph McQuarrie, the movie’s concept artist, realized Vader would have to breathe in space, and created a mask/head covering.
The mask itself went through various iterations before obtaining the rounded yet aggressive features we all have come to know. The first sketches featured a much sharper snout and more narrowed eyes. George Lucas loved McQuarrie’s design and, with small tweaks, implemented it as a permanent fixture for the character.
The full suit was comprised of a motorcycle suit as the base, a robe over top, the belt holding it all together, and a dramatic cloak slung over his shoulders. The original mask was hand-sculpted and asymmetrical.

Details like the buttons on the belt and his chest plate are also essential to the costume, and do serve a purpose. Within the Star Wars story, the suit also functions as a life-support device for a burned and broken Anakin. It is, unfortunately, as the video discusses, a painful experience to wear, with needles puncturing Anakin’s skull, allowing him to control his robotic limbs.
Episode V: The Empire Strikes BackA reportedly bigger budget for the franchise’s second movie allowed for an upgrade to the suit. The helmet was much glossier, and the lenses in his goggles changed from red to pure black. In addition, his upper-body armor was on full display with his robe tucked under instead of hanging over it.

YouTuber Rocket Riley noted even smaller changes, like the color of the buttons on Vader’s chest plate (the top right one changing from green to blue).
Episode VI: Return of the JediThe interior of the helmet was finally shown in the third movie, when Luke Skywalker removed it from Vader’s face. The helmet was designed with a locking system to allow this to happen onscreen.
501st Legion Costume Reference LibraryAll three of the original movies, despite updates to the paint, used the asymmetrical helmet. Not much changed between Episode V and Episode VI, but the glossiness of the helmet in both movies, compared to Episode IV, really made Vader feel more menacing and robotic. The gloves also get noticeably less chunky and cartoonish over the course of the three movies. It seems the costumers were continuously working towards making the character as menacing as possible.
In Return of the Jedi, the glossiness had also extended aggressively to the chest plate and the boots.
Episode III: Revenge of the SithThe first two episodes followed Vader’s (Anakin Skywalker) background, and in Episode III, we finally see the suit for the “first” time, at least in the new trilogy. The helmet has been updated and is symmetrical, being perfected using computer graphics.

The original actor for Darth Vader was 6 feet and 6 inches tall, with the new actor (Hayden Christiansen) measuring 6 inches shorter. The suit was built specifically for him, with internal padding and lifts used in order to keep Vader at his original height.
There is also a clear internal shot of the helmet, showing Vader’s electronic display. The suit also utilizes more silver accents to make his chest plate stand out.
Rogue One/KenobiThe sequels created a new hurdle: previous iterations of the suit were stiff and made it difficult for the actors to move around in. The script called for a suit in which Vader would be able to act out action sequences.
Vader’s suit for Kenobi was entirely rebuilt using flexible, modern fabric. It allowed him to fight in a menacing, aggressive way, which he had never done before.

Rocket Riley showed the lightsaber fights of the original trilogy at 5:57 in the video, where he pointed out the stiff, stunted action of the battles. Then, he juxtaposed a fight from Episode VI of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, where Vader has a full range of motion and is able to look like he is actually fighting.
In Rogue One, the designers had a different goal. They wanted Vader to look as 70s as possible, down to the asymmetrical helmet. They made him stiff again, with an exaggerated neck-piece, and brought back the red lenses in his helmet. His interior cloak was made out of a more structured fabric that allowed pleating, creating more detail on his torso.

Infinity Comics
This costume never appeared on screen, but the video did describe it in length. In one Star Wars Infinity comic, a series which covers non-canon “what if” hypotheticals, Vader turns to the light side. To show this, he is portrayed wearing a fully white suit.

He became “a symbol of hope” rather than “a symbol of fear.” Some people love this idea, and some people hate it.
Where He Stands Now…Darth Vader’s costume upgrades have led to some seriously cool sequences, both visually and in terms of action. When Vader inevitably appears in live-action again, there has now been a flexible suit that allows him to both look as menacing as he always has while also letting him actually move.
One thing is for sure—every iteration has remained pretty loyal to the A New Hope version of Vader. Once designers found the sweet spot for his look, it became ingrained in the public memory as a representation of who he is. Darth Vader remains one of the most recognizable villains across pop culture, and his costume is the reason why.

DC Studios Remains Confident in Its Plan Post-SUPERGIRL
- Peter Safran, co-head of DC Studios, responded to Supergirl’s box office failure.
- He says he remains confident in his and James Gunn’s plan for the DCU.
- Maybe this will mean only the big names in DC will get their own movies going forward.
DC Studios’ Supergirl flew into theaters this past weekend, and the Girl of Steel was quickly grounded at the box office. Despite a budget of $170 million, the film only made $68 million globally. And with just middling reviews, it’s doubtful that the film will grow much beyond this. Like the original 1984 Supergirl, this looks to be another financial flop. And given that it’s DC Studios’ second film after last year’s well-received Superman, fans are wondering if this marks the end of the new DC Studios already. But DC Studios’ co-head, Peter Safran, is not so doom-and-gloomy. Here’s what he told the New York Times, via Deadline:
While Supergirl didn’t meet our box office expectations, it’s just one component of a broader, long-term strategy at DC Studios that we remain confident in.

Now, as co-head of the studio, he has to try to put a positive spin on things. But fans of James Gunn’s DCU shouldn’t start freaking out just yet. Don’t forget, the second MCU film after Iron Man was The Incredible Hulk, which was also a big disappointment. And that all worked out. Although, in fairness, it opened much better than Supergirl did. But we doubt Warner Bros. is going to fire Gunn and Safran after just one flop. Especially one that had such a tough uphill battle to fight as Supergirl did. Many things were stacked against it from the word go, and Supergirl just didn’t have the strength to fight back.
For starters, the character was barely in last year’s Superman. Milly Alcock’s appearance was just a few seconds. So audiences did not become endeared to her, because we didn’t really know Kara yet. Second, it opened a mere week after the box office juggernaut that is Toy Story 5, which was still cleaning up in theaters. Also, there’s the perception that Supergirl (like The Flash) is a TV property, after running on the CW for several seasons. Yes, it’s a different actress in the role, but to the general audience, it’s just another TV show becoming a movie. Even the Star Wars label couldn’t help The Mandalorian and Grogu from that perception.

And there’s also the elephant in the room, the organized hate campaign online from misogynist “fans” toward the film since day one. The same hate campaign organized against The Marvels, She-Hulk, even the well-reviewed Furiosa. There is just a segment of the male fandom who want to make sure female heroes never get the spotlight. Or if they do, they must have a certain cookie cutter look. It’s gross, but it sadly remains a factor. Although how big a factor is debatable. In the same New York Times interview, Safran said he believed “culture had grown,” claiming shock at the ferocity against Milly Alcock from certain men online. Clearly, he is not someone who has spent much time on social media in the past few years.
Milly Alcock will appear as Supergirl again, in next year’s Man of Tomorrow. And she’s probably under contract for more movies after that. So the character isn’t vanishing, or killed off, such as the last time a Supergirl film bombed. But sadly, don’t expect any more big-budget tentpoles from DC Studios based on B-list or C-list characters. This applies to Marvel Studios as well. The days of studios giving out big-budget movies to every superhero are behind us. From DC, expect the “Big Guns” only; Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Justice League (eventually). The rest will probably be relegated to streaming series and animation. And maybe, that’s ok.

Let’s Breakdown That Massive Critical Role Campaign 4 Death
- Critical Role Campaign 4 hit us with a major death, and we are breaking down all the details and questions behind it.
Between the sprawling scope of Critical Role Campaign 4’s story and its massive 13-player cast, the cards have always been on the table regarding potential player character deaths. Anyone could go at any time. We came eerily close in the opening moments of the campaign with Alexander Ward’s Occits Tachonis, but this time, there were no nat 20s or stones of nightsong to save the day in the eleventh hour, and *massive spoiler alert* in the final moments of episode 30, Teor Pridesire (Travis Willingham) became the first PC to die in Critical Role Campaign 4.
With Willingham absent from the table entirely in episode 31, there are no ifs, ands, or buts about it; Teor Pridesire is gone. But he didn’t leave without giving posthumous parting gifts to two of his fellow adventurers. What is a Death Boon, and what does it mean for Wick (and Thimble)? We break it down.
How Do Teor and Talcydimir Pridesire Die in Critical Role Campaign 4?Converging in the city of Dol-Makjar and exchanging key resources and information, the Soldiers, Seekers, and Schemeres tables reshuffle in episode 28 of Campaign 4, forming three new groups to peel off and pursue new goals: Team Theatre, Team Spy, and the ill-fated Team Bird Watching. While Team Theatre attends opening night at the Hallowed Round and Team Spy attempts to sit in on a meeting of the sundered houses, the Pridesire brothers and the rest of Team Bird Watching Julien Davinos (Matt Mercer), Thimble (Laura Bailey) and Occtis) journey to Occtis’ family home of Obrimus Manor in an effort to find and rescue Mara the Wing, a druid ally of Thjazi Fang.
Unfortunately for Team Bird Watching, House Tachnois’ many dark bargains and arcane secrets mean Obrimus Manor is a literal haunted house, and as Occtis and Co. plunge deeper into the crypts in search of answers (and Mara), they inadvertently awaken the hoards of the undead, and the encounter becomes a desperate fight to escape the manor. Though Julien and Occtis successfully rescue Mara the Wing and escape with their lives, Teor and Cyd find themselves face-to-face with one House Tachnois’ many horrific experiments: the monstrous, re-animated corpse of General Raimond Davinos.
The once-noble general has been transformed into an unrecognizable, shambling creature, and though Teor and Cyd fight tooth and claw to escape Raimond and his zombie hoard, the brothers are overwhelmed, and the newly-reunited Pridesires die side-by-side in battle.

In his final moments, Teor chooses to give his Death Boon to Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), honoring their shared belief in a higher power and affinity for the divine.
The moment Teor dies, a lion head talisman appears in Wick’s hand, which Mulligan lets us know in the next episode, is symbolic of the boon Teor granted Wick: a permanent +2 buff to his charisma score, bringing Wick from an 18 to a maxed-out charisma of 20.
What Happens to Teor’s Killer, General Raimond Davinos?Unwilling to leave her friend behind and unaware he’s already dead, Thimble rushes to Teor’s aid instead of fleeing with Julien and Occtis, and arrives to find the undead General standing over Teor and Cyd’s bodies. Risking certain death, Thimbles moves in for the kill and (thanks to the damage Teor and Cyd had managed to get in last session) successfully downs General Davinos with a single blow.
In destroying the zombified general, Thimble isn’t just avenging her fallen friend: after the encounter, Brennan tells the table that House Tachonis had intended to use their new undead abomination to hunt down and kill his own son – a cruel fate for both Julien and the General, averted thanks to Thimble’s impulsive act of bravery.

What Happens to Teor’s Body?
With General Davinos laid to permanent rest, Thimble was able to get to Teor and Cyd’s bodies, prompting Brennan to reveal the other half of the Death Boon. In addition to granting one character an ability, the dead can also will one item to a player character of their choice, and Travis chose to will Teor’s Bracers of Oak and Birch to Thimble.
Created by House Royce, the Bracers set the wearer’s strength score to 19 and give them the benefits of the Barkskin spell, while also allowing the wearer to carry/lift/pull one size larger than their normal carrying capacity. As a four-inch-tall pixie, the strength buff is particularly massive for Thimble, taking her from a -4 strength modifier to a +4.
In a heartbreaking first use of her newfound strength, Thimble uses her new carrying capacity to effortlessly lift both Cyd and Teor, moving them safely out of Tachnois territory so they can be laid to rest without worry of future re-animation.
Is Travis Willingham Gone From Critical Role Campaign 4?Though Teor may be the first permanent departure from the Campaign 4 tables, that doesn’t mean Willingham is leaving with him: in the Critical Cooldown for episode 30, Travis confirmed he has a backup character prepared; due to the lethal nature of the campaign, Brennan had asked the entire cast to have a backup ready.
The question isn’t so much *if* Travis will come back to Campaign 4 with a new character, but *when*. Spoilers for Critical Role: Bell’s Hells, but the last time one of Willingham’s characters died, there was a four-month gap in real time between Chetney’s death and the introduction of Braius, his new PC.
Similarly, Campaign 4 has a break coming up soon: as of right now, there are no new episodes scheduled July 9 through August 13, which is when a new six-part mini Daggerheart campaign, Age of Umbraw: Sallowlands, is set to air. Between his absence from episode 31 and his historical propensity for taking some time away from the table between characters, it’s plausible we won’t meet Travis Willingham’s new character until mid-August when the campaign returns in full.
The Daggerheart premiere and Travis’ temporary departure from the table coincide eerily well; the six-week break from Critical Role Campaign 4 gives fans time to grieve the first fallen party member while Willingham and Mulligan work on the perfect way to slot this new character into the tangled web that is the world of Aramán.

BACKROOMS Will Get Theater Re-Release With Brand New Footage
- Backrooms just came to theaters in May 2026, but it is already getting a re-release in July 2026.
- The new release is titled Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition and it has 15 more minutes of footage.
- This release will arrive on July 3 for the holiday weekend.
A24 found itself with another big hit thanks to Backrooms. The film from director Kane Parsons took this infamous creepypasta tale and brought it to the big screen. We followed a furniture store owner who discovered some seriously creepy liminal spaces in the store’s basement, and we really enjoyed the journey. Backrooms came out at the end of May 2026, but there’s already a re-release hitting theaters less than two months later in July with 15 more minutes of footage.

According to Variety, this version of the film is cleverly titled Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition and will have a “theatrically exclusive post-credit.” Very interesting, indeed. It appears that the Backrooms re-release will come to AMC theaters but it is not clear if that’s true for other big names like Regal. If it doesn’t come to a theater near you, hopefully that footage will appear as a special feature on a future 4K UHD release.

THE ANGRY BIRDS MOVIE 3 Trailer Shows Red as a Parent

The trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 3 came out today, and it managed to encompass all of the chaos of the prior two movies — but in a family-comedy-shaped package. Angry Birds 3 will follow Red as he raises his three kids. They take after their father, to his dismay, and get into various hijinks of their own.
The first two movies, based on the popular mobile game, followed Red as he saved the birds from the villainous green pigs and then allied with the same pigs to defeat the eagles. Now, the story will become more family-centered.
This holiday season, one angry bird will face his greatest challenge yet, surviving fatherhood… while saving the world!
The trailer definitely focused on the fatherhood aspects far more than the “saving the world.” There was a short clip of an arena, a menacing-looking pig, and Red wearing a jersey. Otherwise, it was comprised of clips of Red dealing with two teens with the classic “I hate my parents” attitude, and visual gags involving his infant son. Silver, his wife, only appears once in the trailer.
Beloved characters from the first two movies, like Chuck (Josh Gad) and Bomb (Danny McBride), return for more fun. These two comic relief sidekicks serve as fun-uncle characters and help Red with his fatherly duties. The trailer shows them attempting a diaper change with Red’s youngest son.

It is unclear how balanced the plot will be between family comedy and a larger mission. Based on the trailer, they definitely spent more time on introducing Red’s children as characters. It seems to be a very different plot structure than the first two movies, which were more about the mission/adventure aspect. It is unclear what, exactly, the imminent threat is—besides the challenges of parenthood.
The Angry Birds Movie 3 will come out this December.
